The unit should have an operators/service manual which should give the performance parameters. Water samples for culture may be done by your path lab but if not, as most washer systems use RO's, I would suggest contacting the guys in your nearest renal unit as they will have their own system set up for both microbiological and chemical testing.

Yes I know that.

Just wondering if anyone here actually had anything to do with it.

Talk to the guys doing your renal as they should be taking samples of their water.

There is a standard for this written down in one of the masses of documents with reference to acceptable levels of colony count and endotoxins in the system. Should be in your trust policies/standards.

If you're getting involved with endoscope washers you need to look at HTM2030 and the more recent HTM 01-01. Your Trust should have appointed an external AE (Authorised Engineer)who should be able to provide advice.

Endoscopy decontamination / washers is becomming high profile, with most trusts likely to recieve visits by JAG and HCC auditors in the comming months.
The approach we have taken for HTM compliance is:
Appoint an AP/AE.
Users carry out daily and weekiy tests (following training)
Washer supplier carry out maintenance and revalidation.

Hope you find this useful
