Another example of the NHS trying to accomodate business practices into its burgeoning bureaucracy.
When will the top management realise that the only way to do this is to disband the NHS and start from scratch, if indeed this is the way to go.

I did some research on 'Lean techniques'. They are not good for public services and research shows that in 70% of cases they fail. They fail because the NHS is not a production line - and that is what 'Lean' improves.

I think that improvement is possible - but change needs to carefully considered and delivered. These leasn events look for quick fixes, that invevitably cause problems in other areas.

From what i can see - Lean in the NHS is another name for 'time and motion study'.

Lean Management was developed and employed by Toyota for increasing efficiency. Say no more (cars and patients are the same, aren't they??????).

This is an example of the most dangerous meddling in the NHS. For an organisation to run "lean" means that it is consatantly overstretched an relies on suppliers to be on time every time (JIT in the old days). The consequenses of failure in the NHS can be catastrophic. In industry you insert penalty clauses if someone fails their part, we are dealing with poples lives here not car parts!!

Geoff, we have only met once but after reading many of your posts over the years, I don't think you would want your "snout in the trough". You don't strike me as the sort of person to just take the money, you want to feel like you are making a difference.

I guess the "Baboon" may be running out of idea. Perhaps this is something never practised in this part of the world.
Yes patients are unlike cars as they have feelings but the whole thing is to cut waste in various processes.

Make the impossible POSSIBLE. I know we all can and it is the wisdom to distinguish one from the other.

Thank you for your kind words, Mark. Yes, I recall that we may have met briefly a couple of years ago at a certain West London Hospital that was in dire straits at the time. I wasn't able to help out there as my wonderful agent (at that time) came up with a booking elsewhere. Although, remembering how things turned out at that one, in retrospect I should have stayed in London. But these things happen, unfortunately.

But on a personal note, what I would really prefer is to continue to "make a difference" and take the money! smile
