If you are going for a "Biomed" degree I would recommend not forgetting it consists of the words Biology and Medicine. Whilst a biology background is only essential when engaging in R&D work, it will become increasingly important as techs get involved with training issues, where you need to know the lingo at the very least, and knowing a bit more than just that will give you some credibility. For the service technician it's worth knowing a broad but basic background of human biology in order to understand clinical staff concerns, to participate in drawing up pre-purchase equipment specifications, comprehend what is written in incident forms etc. I did the OU course "Human Biology" SK277 and while I found it very demanding (it was the first extended formal study I had done for 18 years) it was mostly highly relevant and VERY interesting. Not for a BEng, the only ones that are are T191 and T397. But there is a note that you have to have 2 residentials. One of the good things is you can have the point count to more that one subject (BEng and BSc)
