Hi, Can you tell me what you mean "not fit for purpose?" and do you mean power lead. I am a commissioning nurse and we are looking at infusion pumps now. Can you tell me what system you are talking about as this will help us during evaluation.

Cheers
Sonia

I mean that it is not up to the job in that it is too fragile to be used in a ward environment.

When they drop it there is no outside damage but a bit falls off inside which makes them useless.

With this pump there is no power lead, it is a charger on the wall that converts the mains voltage to a safe level.

In response to Kawasaki, this was done but they ignored our views. As the quote went 'That does not matter!!!'

Sounds like the "same old story" to me, Mate. Some things never change. It's been like that for at least the last 35 years, to my certain knowledge.

As long as purchasing decisions continue to be based on emotion, "female intuition", the phase of the moon, the colour of the sales rep's eyes, or some other form of mumbo jumbo ... and not sound clinical need supported by scientific and/or technical criteria, backed up by realistic life-cycle costing, then things will still be the same in another 35 years.

As I keep saying, if you guys were to charge (that is, bill) for your services, whether "internal" or not, then perhaps the wards et al might buck up a bit, and even listen next time around! If they insisted on buying the rubbish, let them feel the "pain" of being without the darned things when they fail. frown

Infusion pumps are heavily used. In short, they get a hard life, and are in almost constant use (except, that is, when they are out of order, usually as a result of being dropped on the floor). Surely everyone here knows that!

Therefore, they need to be as rugged as they can be if they're to stay the course (that is, prove reliable in service). "Rugged", "Reliable" need to be high up on the list of boxes to be ticked. Get the sales rep to drop one if you like! It's hardly rocket science, is it? smile

By Private Message, hopefully! smile

But, while you're waiting, why not take a look at this ... or, even, this (we can but wonder why that one is so out of date)?
