Sounds like the "same old story" to me, Mate. Some things never change. It's been like that for at least the last 35 years, to my certain knowledge.
As long as purchasing decisions continue to be based on emotion, "female intuition", the phase of the moon, the colour of the sales rep's eyes, or some other form of
mumbo jumbo ... and not sound clinical need supported by scientific and/or technical criteria, backed up by realistic life-cycle costing, then things will still be the same in another 35 years.
As I keep saying, if you guys were to
charge (that is, bill) for your services, whether "internal" or not, then perhaps the wards
et al might buck up a bit, and even
listen next time around! If they insisted on buying the rubbish, let them feel the "pain" of being without the darned things when they fail.
