At least, in the case of an "incident", and the finger being pointed at "lack of maintenance" (often so easy to blame, rather than the likely actual reason), "they" can't say they didn't know (they weren't in effect warned)!

To my mind the Risk Register is a good thing. If I were in charge (at any NHS Hospital ... Heaven forbid), I would get as much as possible on that list! Let the Big Shots be made aware. Let them shoulder the responsibility. That's why they gouge those excessive remuneration packages! smile

As an addendum: when I have been working as an agency tech, I have always advised the biomed manager to have the fact that I'm around placed squarely on the Risk Register. After all, there is always risk, and it works in both directions. For reasons that I have never understood, they have always taken the view that it wasn't necessary. Perhaps they have been worried that I would sue the Trust in the event of picking up some awful bug or some such thing. And the fact that I was on the Risk Register would prove that I was indeed there, which otherwise could be denied. Who knows? Is adding a risk to the Register such a big deal? Is it seen as an admission of weakness ... or what?

My spanner swinging boss came to see me this morning to see why I had been kicking off. He told me basically to cover my bottom and report everything. He then goes on to tell me the number of box files of info where he has done this recently.
This is exactly my point I scream (well inwardly anyway), everyone is covering their own behinds because the job isn't being done properly or safely in the first place. I ask the question "why not attemp to make a change and alter things?". The reply comes back about pensions and keeping your head down.

Thought I would have a last laugh, put in a 30 page job description for whoever follows me. The old one was 3 page. A4C has a lot to answer for. It is likely to come out at least a grade up from what I'm paid. At least someone will have a half decent pay to put up with all the manure the NHS creates

But have you quit yet, if you don't like your job, don't like the people you work for, then instead of writing job descriptions, filling in needless forms as you say. Take one A4 sheet write a resignation hand it in and see how the cookie crumbles. You could then join Geoff on the 'DARK SIDE'

All well and good ... but it takes (shall we say) the courage of your convictions (not to mention cojones) to do that. smile

Find a job on the 'Dark Side'

Then hand in your resignition.... is a better option in my opinion.
