Yet another bad piece of journalism, I notice. Which, I might add, seems to be the norm these days. All part of the great "dumbing down" of Britain, I dare say.

She did not "accidentally throw away the mattress" ... she did it deliberately, thinking she was doing the right thing by her mother. What she wasn't aware of (we must assume) was the $1 million stashed inside.

I also have my doubts about this piece of reportage:-

"There has been no comment from her mother"! smile

A couple of other thoughts come to mind:-

1) Can we be sure that the mattress made it to the garbage dump?
2) How come the old gal was able to (secretly, supposedly) accumulate that sort of wealth?
3) It's one way of avoiding inheritance taxes!

Let's just say that sometimes it's best not to simply accept things at face value!

And lastly ... Tel Aviv churns out 3,000 tonnes of rubbish every day (hey, that's almost as much as Glastonbury)! How long before Israel becomes just one big garbage dump?

Meanwhile, here's a guy who is worth listening to. In fact, he could actually be one of the most powerful men in the world!

This is the bit I liked:-

Quote:
She said, I've got a company. And I said tell me about it, and she said there are 12 people, three in New Delhi, two in Mountain View, and there's somebody in Spain.

... sounds like an idea that I could buy into! smile

What they're talking about there, of course, is the power of the internet. And the fact that, for many (modern) companies (but also depending upon the nature of the "product"), it is becoming increasingly irrelevant where you, and your people, are actually located.

Factories in China, suppliers all over the world, one guy in Karachi (let's say), one in Dubai, another in LA (Rotherham, wherever), another floating around somewhere (who knows?) ... zero product actually stocked (it doesn't take stuff long to arrive from Hong Kong). A server somewhere in Cyberspace, and a bank account in Jersey (the Cayman Islands, wherever the best deal is on offer).

Virtual company, virtual products, and er, virtual salary. Ha, ha. Anyone want to join me?

Here's some nice news. It's great to see modern technology being put to good use (I almost said "for a change"). smile

To my mind, linkage between *electronic devices and the bio-system is what true biomedical engineering is all about!

Here's some more about the BrainPort.

* Anyone else remember the magic device of about thirty years ago that was supposed to speed up the healing of bone fractures by using magnetic fields? What ever became of that?

Here's something that has just been pointed out to me (at another forum). Very interesting. It looks nice, and worth keeping an eye on.

An Open Source system, with a hardware design based upon on-line dialogue (that is, "designed by the People"). Sounds like Good News to me. Does anyone on here have one yet? smile

Not only is this the latest news, surely it also demonstrates the way that CEO's should write memos (read it when you have time).

Redmond comes to Helsinki? smile

Maybe we'll be seeing some special deals on Symbian shortly, then? think

Here is the latest on the latest!

I'll leave it to y'all to follow this one now. Could it be the end of Nokia as we know (knew) it?

Either way, let's hope that someone sensible takes over Symbian.

How about it Huw? Any spare cash in the ebme coffers? smile
