I have a fault with a Sony PVM-20L2MD monitor, it seems like maybe one of the colours isn't working as the image has a very strong red hue. Fiddling with the colour settings on the monitor makes no real difference. I've already ruled out the signal going to the monitor being faulty, but there my expertise ends.

Has anyone had a similar fault and were you able to fix it?

Failing that, can anyone suggest a company who can repair these monitors?

Hi

Are you using a DVI connection? - if so check that your DVI set up is correct, I've have a unit that has DVI and DVI-RGB.

Hi Phil,

It's an S-VHS connection in this case.

I spoke to AGX, unfortunately they don't deal with video monitors, although they did give me the phone number for the Sony helpdesk (01256 828828) who hopefully will be able to point me towards a suitable service agent. *crosses fingers*

I went to visit Imotek last week. They are a main Sony agent and repair / sell sony monitors and ultrasound.

Nice facility - countrywide setup. smile

Is anyone out there switching over from CRT to flatscreen before replacing their stacks? I've been getting some requests from the consultants for new stacks (when their stuff is still supported). Might be more cost efficient to buy them a new monitor. smile

Is the image quality "there" yet with flat screens? It's all a bit subjective, I know ... and we all know what surgeons are like! smile

I am no expert on image quality, but we have some HD flat screen monitors and the surgeons seem very happy with them. smile

If you have already tried adjusting the colour temp in the user service menu (press and hold the menu/exit button while the menu is displayed) then I suggest you send the monitor in for investigation.

Also check that the "preset" option is not turned on as this will disable the controls on the front control panel. If it is on then you will not be able to adjust the colours using the knobs.

Page 27 to 29 of the operators manual explains the menus.

Just to confirm John Sandham's post, Imotek can repair the Sony CRT monitors.

If you send the monitor to us we would firstly assess the fault and then provide an estimate. We would not carry out any work until we had been authorised to do so by yourselves.

Just to warn you though....Sony have stopped making/supplying a lot of parts for CRT monitors therefore we may not be able to obtain certain parts should they be required.

Imotek was the one Sony suggested. No disrespect to OMI or anything but we've used Imotek for other items, they're on the "approved supplier" list and all that jazz so that's where the monitor is headed (once we obtain a suitably large box of course).

RE: flat screen monitors. Whether or not the image quality suits seems to vary by surgeon, although in this case the monitor is primarily for teaching purposes, so it's perhaps less critical.

But anyway, thanks all.
