@ Geoff, Never met Robin whilst I was with Global, I know Huw went to the University hospital with Rajab, in between Global and Rajab was Nesma I think Huw and Robin joined Nesma towards the end of the contract with KKUH

# 17, He decommissioned quite a lot of clinics, hospitals and equipment in Iraq and Afghanistan, last seen leaving Europe with his tail between his legs.

Here are some more biomed and/or hospital O&M contractors from that era:- DIAL GAMA I-MANCO NESMA R&S (Rajab & Silsilah) SATCO (a one-off, unfortunately) SMEH SOMC ZOMCO (my favourite) ... and many others! As I may have mentioned before, in the main I managed to keep away from the Big Hospitals myself. There was much more fun to be had out in the Desert (that is, at the small hospitals and clinics - both government and private).

And, whilst we’re all in reminiscing mode, how about recalling some of the placement (I can't bring myself to use the word "recruitment") agencies from those days of yore? Surely many must remember my old mate Paddy Earp (the aptly named Middle-Man)? But how about Raymond Whiteside, Grafton, ORS and er, Network? Once again, there were many. But are any of them still active, I wonder? Does "ten per cent of the first year's salary" ring any bells?

Oh yes, the monthly job list! I can recall looking forward to (receiving) the magazine. Even though it didn't always arrive. Those were the days! I remember meeting Keith Edmonds once (a long time ago now, though). A great guy, of course. Not exactly "PC", though (and all the better for that)! And, of course (but much later), the ladies at Expat Network. But a lot of that has been rendered largely redundant by the internet, wouldn't you say? "Home and Away" ... and "Nexus".

Still I cannot recall anyone landing on-site and saying that they had been recruited through expat, although to be fair they always offered a warm welcome (never took up the offer myself) and to join them at Christmas time.

There was a time (again, a long time ago now ... circa mid '80's to early '90's in fact), when a few of us were seriously thinking of forming our own "expat biomed group"! The original "Biomed Buddies".* But it failed to materialise. Why? In a word (or two) - self-interest. By that I mean, and as an example, someone would get wind of a project, or a contract, and jealously keep it for themselves! Needless to say, I gave up battling "human nature" ( aka greed, selfishness etc.) a long time ago. * Or the "Band of Brothers", eh, Tony?
