If they ever offer me a bus pass you can have that as I won't be needing it!

Surely Jeddah has hundreds of privately owned minibuses zig-zagging through the traffic at great speed, polluting the atmosphere, just as they do in Riyadh?

"All the fun of the fair"* comes to mind (including being shot at occasionally). Definitely not for the faint hearted. frown

I'm thinking of buying an old Coaster and having a go in Leeds!

* Bus fair, that is. You hand your two Riyals (or not, if you really like living dangerously) to other passengers who (supposedly) collect them and pass them to the driver.

Sounds like you're still in good shape, then, Neil ... Alhamdulillah!

What's your secret ... clean living, and football? Or lack of stress? smile

If you buy an old coaster for this purpose remember to remove the doors, window and seat belts as well. Also you have to remove as much of the tread from the tires without puncturing them.

Yes, I take your point. You see that sort of thing all over the world, do you not? Bangkok, Bombay, Jakarta, Lagos, Manilla et al.

People who moan and groan about 'elf 'n safety and "lack of standards" in England should consider the alternative! frown

I wonder how long one of those Riyadh Coasters would last on the streets of Leeds (that is, before the Old Bill intervened). An hour? It would be an interesting experiment!

For some reason my mind goes back to happy days out in Hong Kong (33 years ago now). Every time it rained (after being dry for a few weeks) those double-decker buses* would come slithering off the road. Very scary! Especially on those (steep) hills over on the island. All due to zero tread on the tyres, of course (that plus oil slicks, diesel spillage etc. on the overcrowded roads).

* That's where most (if not all) of the Routemasters ended up after going around the the clock a couple of times in London.

Back to the original thread, although the last few posts have proved that to deliver a decent service and get through the day one needs a good sense of humour.
Regarding stress, my answer is 'let the other bloke have the heart attack' I will just watch, one can only do what one can do and there are only so many hours in a day.
