We have about 170 Pressure Relieving Mattresses supplied two years ago on a lease agreement by a well known manufacturer. About eighteen months into the lease we found the mattress covers had started to become porous with pin prick holes in the pressure areas, allowing fluid to ingress onto the inside of the mattress cover causing contamination. We are now looking to replace up to sixty mattress covers at considerable cost because of this contamination.

Has any other Trust experienced this problem?

Or as the manufacture says ‘you are the only Trust to report this problem’.

Sorry. Can’t comment here but does your post suggest you have had problems with these brands?

I do not think you are the only one with this problem.
Have a look at this MHRA alert sent out last week.

My spelling is not bad. I am typing this on a Medigenic keyboard and I blame that for all my typos.

We have a decent stock of owned systems and manage these via a centralised library system.
No specific issues with longevity of the nattress covers, however you do need to clean them correctly (use of compatible cleaning fluids/techniques) and also launder them correctly (correct temperature for wash and drying cycles and methods).

Not sure if you are cleaning the top covers yourself? but if you do, make sure the processes are correct for the particular covers in question.
Incidentally, damage due to 'miss-use' at the ward level is generally an issue for the ward staff to resolve and not the equipment manufacturer. We have experienced a number of such issues such as sharps damage or severe staining of one sort or another. This can render the protective none permeable layer to the cover useless which could lead to what you are describing
