Hi,
We have tried a few different types of machines and have found only one that works ok for the large patients (Carescape v100).
What are you using at your facility?
Thanks,
Pete

Pete, Sure;ly it is the cuff size that needs to be correct not the machine. Most machines come with a huge range of cuffs that they work with correctly. I have known thigh cuffs to be used on the arms of large patients where necessary. As the machine is designed to work with these cuffs it will work OK. Are you needing even bigger cuffs than this???? Robert
My spelling is not bad. I am typing this on a Medigenic keyboard and I blame that for all my typos.

We have tried 2 Welch Allyn spot 420 that takes multiple tries to get a reading (if it takes one at all, Gave them a old Critikon dinamap that worked a little better then the Welch Allyn. The Cas medical machine works a bit better but not as good as the GE Carescape V100 which the staff really liked. Suntech is going to bring in a demo next week which we will see how this works out. We were ok with the large patients and have used thigh cuffs but now we are getting 500 pound + patients and the Welch Allyn monitors are not working well.

If folk are that well insulated, it's difficult to imagine any NIBP working very well. I suggest that people start exploring other techniques for dealing with biosystems of such, er ... grand and magnificent proportions.
If you don't inspect ... don't expect.

Hi Pete,
One of the projects SunTech is working on is a specific technology for bariatric patients. If you are interested in helping can you PM me with your contact details?
Thanks Richard

Why not try using the adult extra long cuffs. They are normal width but extra long. Thigh cuffs on arms are usually too wide as lots of bariatric patients tend to have short stubby upper arms. We use these extra long cuffs on Dinamaps, S5 Monitors and Solar Monitors.

Hi Graham,
Thanks for the reply, we already have the "long" versions of cuffs, but it does not address the issue of arm circumferences beyond 65cm. In the extra long cuffs the bladders are usually the same size as for the standard cuffs. We have had enquiries about cuffs over 75 cm, but the length to width ratio of the bladders is so far out side of the 80/40 rule that there are accuracy issues.
Cheers,
Richard
