Hello Jan, nice to hear that the Ultramark 9 is still doing well. A bit of "memory-lane" for me. Unfortunately ours were so reliable that apart from having to change a screen, in all the time I knew them I did not have any other in-depth faults to have to analyze. Ours have long-since all been replaced and passed on to other "more needy" locations in the Kingdom. I am sure that a call/e-mail to ATL will give you help or fax you an error-code listing and suggested places to look. I will call our local agent/engineers for you and see if they can help. Good luck

I have spoken to an engineer about your problem and he is looking into it as best he can. He suggests meanwhile that you try the 'start-up' period first with no probes connected, and then do it with one probe at a time to see if your problem is being caused by an individual probe. Then do the start-up with two or three probes connected. I think you may well have already tried something like this perhaps. Anyway, let me know as soon as you can if this shows any interesting signs to the problem so that I can get back to him. - Nick

Hi Nick,
When no probe attached it's the same, bud only once +/- 80 V appeared for about 3-4 sec., when there is releys noise. When probe attached, there is second event */- 80 V appeared..after about 20 sec. again..no more.

Thanks for that Jan, Have had no further reply from our local agent. Will call him again. Sorry not to have been any better at helping, but it has been well over ten years since I saw that model and I cannot remember even where the power-supply is located. If you have not already searched for it, that would be a good place to have a look for this +/- supply for the probes. In the big machines like yours the PSU is generally found right at the bottom of the system. If you are lucky you may well find that on one of the system PCBs in the main body of the machine there are test-points for each of the voltages from the supply and should be fairly easily accessible. If you find any, then attach DMM probes to the points and then switch on the machine for the boot-up and monitor the individual +/- volts. I think about 100volts would be typical for probe HT. But you are looking for a dip in the voltage perhaps when it tries to carry out the probe test itself. If it cannot hold steady around the initial voltage then you may well have a PSU or probe problem. Eliminate the probe by doing the same test with another probe and if the same result occurs it will indicate the PSU is likely to be the culprit. As a general note, check too the pins on each probe to make sure none of them are bent, shorting or perhaps missing because they have broken off. Look also at the sockets on the machine for the probes.
