Umish, if regions have standards that are worse than what you believe they should be, then use your own (higher) standards

Neil has already indicated that they follow UK standards in the Renal Department where he is ... so that's hardly likely to be AAMI is it? (although they are, no doubt, similar).

For those who may not know - AAMI is an organisation based in the USA. They are very good ... but the UK is not the USA (unfortunately). Neither, I might add, is KSA.

Neil went to the same school as myself - that is, the "old school" - we like to follow the highest international standards, regardless of their origin. To my mind, that's what Biomed Best Practice is all about. Pick the best, and reject the rest. After all, many of the national standards have what we might call "political" (or even protective - of local industries) bias. smile

Perhaps you care to elaborate which Renal Department are you referring to?

The one in Swansea or Bolton?

There is no standard for conductivity as such but, along with the reject ratio, it is a useful indicator of membrane efficiency. Where the AAMI standard refers to the acceptable levels of chemicals in the water, there is not much difference between this standard and any other. Where there are differences is in the microbiological levels. The UK and EU standards are much higher (i.e. require lower levels) than AAMI.

It shouldn't matter which UK renal department, they should all be aiming to comply with the standard, as a minimum.
