How many Colleagues in use in the US? EU, UK ... Oz ... etc.

How many deaths attributed to these pumps in the US? How many in the EU? How many in the UK ... Oz ... etc.

What were the reasons given in each case? A specific technical fault? How many were actually down to "operator error", or the wrong giving set being (re-)used?

Well, as to the numbers involved, in the USA (as I think it said in the previously posted news feed) about 200,000. Total here in Oz, I could not say but we as a company have some 2700 active units under our "care".

Problems?

Batteries
Screens
Air in line sensors
the "will not turn on at all if the tube release is not set correctly" problem
and others that have been discussed elsewhere on this forum I do believe, if one were to use the very useful search function so thoughtfully provided by Huw , eh Geoff !!

and that's just the general/everyday technical never mind the clinical which I am not qualified to comment on. Perhaps others would care to expand on that.

Cheers Dave (especially about the Search facility) ... I was hoping someone was going to summarize the actual problems.

But let's be clear that these are not the only pumps that have technical problems. In fact, can anyone name one that is completely without them? Or was completely devoid of trouble during its life in service?

All of these Baxter pumps were upgraded in Canada over the last several years. Not too sure why they fell behind in the US. The re-call is more about Baxter being too slow in getting the upgrades completed. Canada was completed on time because there were only 1/10th the number of units to upgrade.
Actually not that many in use anyway. My 750 bed hospital has none of these pumps. The most predominately used pump in Canada is the 'Plum' by Hospira,Inc. located near Chicago, Ill.

What a suprise they have not finished upgrading these pumps and they are not with drawing the pumps from the rest of the world.

HI All

I spoke with Baxter last week and we have a new release date of the next upgrade - sometime in Q3 ....we hope - but I'm not holding my breath.
