dear all,
we ( a french ngo ) are planning to equip a pediatric hospital in Iraq. we would like to know is you have a good contact for purchasing / installing / servicing the equipement we are planning to send (mostly Philips monitors and Fresenius pumps )at a "normal " rate. we already have a contact in Jordan but the prices , ahem , are 3 time the current prices we have in europe and when it's about hundrends thousands euros , it's a little exagerated :-).
so if you know a good compagny , honest and who want to do business on fair basis , please let us know !

That's the great thing about folk in so-called "developing countries" (or whatever you want to call them) ... they love to rip off their own people, whilst begging for the hated "West" to come running to their aid every time there is a bit of drama!

OK ... rant over. I notice you have made a similar post on another well-known site, Jean Michel.

I am always on the look out for overseas "honest techs" to "partner" with myself, but I regret to say that, so far, each opportunity has been misinterpreted (by them) as a "licence to print money"!

In the case you outline, I think I would set up my own people in Amman, then get the locals to transport the stuff across the border. Get some instructions printed up in Arabic, then leave it at that. Chances are the convoy won't make it unhindered to Baghdad, anyway.

If you use any of the 'agencies' in the Middle East you will find all the prices inflated, sub-contracting might work with labour from the Far East, the problem that you might face apart from security is obtaining the visa's from outside the country.

well , we are going on site to make an assessment of needs and ways to ship the devices ourselves.it won't be easy i know but we have a deadline for the end of the year so our choises are not infinites.
