Hi all,
we are currently looking at replacing our old IVAC572 volumetric pumps in our Peads unit, I have a couple of questions - does anyone use Fresenius Agilia devices (Good or Bad ?), and then what pressure settings are used for occlusions - I am having a hard time getting the users away from the 50mmHg settings as used with the 572. All replies / info gratefully rx'd. Ta.

Our lot uses the 50mmHg philosphy until I pointed out that it all depends on the height of the patient to pump. Horrified was the expression when it showed greater than 50mmHg without alarm.

Does the Agilia have a pressure transducer that can be altered or is it fixed.

This as we know is hard to get them away from the brainwashing 50mmHg as we are still trying aswell. 75mmHg was too high!!

Is it just infusions you are trying for or is it syringe drivers aswell.

David,
Have you already got the Fresenius pump? BBraun have new software with predictive alarms that looks interesting.
We are in the same boat want to replace the 572 but there is no obvious replacement.

Hi we've got exactly the same problem but were awaiting the launch of the VP from Carefusion as our wards 'require' inline pressure monitoring, we too work on the 50mmHg default settings.

Hi David.F

We use the Fresenius Agilia here at out hospital. NICU use it as well as adult areas. The pressure management on the pumps can be set for use in the NICU. The pump can either be set up into one of two pressure management modes, namely VARIABLE MODE or 3 LEVELS MODE.

VARIABLE MODE would be used in the NICU, as you would set the pump a maximum pressure between 50 to 750 mmHg, in 50 mmHg increments. This defines the authorized maximum pressure during infusion.

Also, a pre-alarm level of 50 mmHg below maximum pressure is present. It warns the user when the pressure reaches within 50 mmHg of the maximum. If the maximum pressure is set at 50 mmHg, then the pre-alarm is set at 25 mmHg.

Also, the pumps can be set-up on MICRO mode, to allow increments of 0.1 ml for volume and rate settings.

The pumps are generally good. We don't get a lot of issues with them and they tend to be very accurate. Biggest problem seems to be general deterioration due to heavy use.

Thanks all,
I have managed to convince the Paediatric dept to go for a 100mmHg starting point because of the prealarm and the speed of response, so we'll see how it goes. 4 week trial starting with training next week.
Thanks for all of your replies.
