A Guide to Job Advertisement...

A well written job advertisement is vital to attracting candidates and ensuring the applications you receive are suitable and of a high standard. Your job advertisement must accurately and clearly define the position and explain the skills, knowledge and experience you are looking for.

Keep the advertisement concise and focused on the key elements of the position. You have the option of attaching the full position description for the candidate to download, rather than including every detail in the job advertisement.

Position Summary
This is your opportunity to get the reader's attention and entice them to continue reading. It is important that your job summary is compelling and interesting.

Provide a brief overview (2 or 3 sentences) of the organisation and the position.
What is the core business and vision of the organisation?
What are the primary functions and objectives of the position?

Reporting Relationship
Where does the position sit in the department structure?

Who will they report to?

Responsibilities
List the main day-to-day responsibilities (at least four and no more than 6).
The responsibilities should focus on the expected outcomes of the position. What goals and key performance measures will they be set?
Will they be responsible for any staff?
Which internal and external contacts will they liaise with?

Skills and Experience
What type and what level of previous experience is required?
Include personal qualities such as interpersonal relations, working under pressure and communication skills.
Include qualifications (e.g. degrees, certificates, licenses) and any language skills and computer skills required.

Benefits Salary (if you wish to elaborate further)
Car
Professional training and development
Bonus structure
Pension contributions
Health plan

Final Words of Advice
Ensure you do not discriminate based on gender, age or marital status
Add your company logo - this is an effective method for capturing the viewer's attention
Clearly indicate a deadline for responses and any specific application instructions

... and your point is? think

If you really want a laugh I could show you the last appointment letter that I had the privilege to receive ... but perhaps I shall hold back to spare the blushes of the company concerned. whistle

And lastly, the best job(s) I ever gained were offered (and accepted) on a verbal basis.

Not everyone is employed in the Public Sector, or a large (over-staffed) private company ... alternatives are available. smile

Meanwhile, it's pretty clear that Michael is simply casting his hook into the water (as it were) ... and perhaps, by now, he has "got a bite" for all we know. All the stuff you mention can be dealt with once initial contacts have been made.

To use a fishing analogy.
It the quality of your lure, and how it's cast, which lands the prize fish.

Now dont take the bait... Geoff

Not a red herring is it, jobs like this are hard to come by maybe Geoff can be "poached".
Any idea what the bass-ic salary is, anything to the tuna c£30k.
Eel be a worth-wile aquisition, is it a sole position and what scale would you be on

Sorry to "carp" on, but you would not catch me applying to work in any "plaice" with an advert which is a load of "pollocks".

Is it a job advert ... or an attempt to avoid paying for a "proper" ad. on the website?

Either way, even I would never consider working for a guy who apparently can't spell the word "engineer"! whistle

Stuff like "sloppy" and "can't be bothered to check" doesn't much appeal (to me) I must admit. frown

I thought along the same lines Geoff,

It would appear that we have reached a broad agreement of opinion. (It must be an attempt at a freebie advert).

I dont think he will be overwhelmed by the response from applicants......
