What type of PC (operating system etc.) do you have available?

Does your PC read the disk in question? What does it report (what files are on it)?

Is the disk you are using freshly formatted?

Which software (and from where) are you copying to the disk?

If everything to do with the disk itself is OK ... then I'm afraid that the problem there could be the floppy drive. But (from what you are saying) I would suspect the disk.

Try a new, freshly formatted disk. smile

If you don't inspect ... don't expect.

Do tell us (me) more, Ed ... what OS does the PageWriter in question use? Can it format floppies (that is, straight from the PageWriter) ... and what diskette format does it expect (and, indeed, require)?

When I downloaded the files suggested earlier in the thread, and had a play (you know, the way we do) I noticed that when I made an .img file it was something in the order of the size you're suggesting there.

Do you have an original HP disk? OmniFlop et al would reveal its secrets! smile

To be honest, in order to put this one to bed once and for all, it would be nice to have a simple drill laid out for anyone to follow. That is:-

1) Download .zip file <filename> from ... <url>
2) Format floppy from a PC using FORMAT /<whatever>
3) ...

etc., etc.

I would do it myself if I had the kit to hand. smile

Not forgetting, of course, XLi versus XLs (it might be handy to specify model numbers as well).

Hi
i have not read the whole thread, but do you have another unit? If you do you can copy the files in config on to your disk. Then boot the other machine with it. of course a bit mute if you only have one unit.
just a thought.

Hi Adoudou,
I have taken a look at an existing disk used to support a local M1700XLi, and it does not appear to contain anything odd/special.

We use a 1.44Mb disk with an executable in the root, and a config file contained in a start up folder (spookily named START_UP).

I'm happy to send them if you have yet to achieve a resolution (please give an email address)
