Actually, scam emails such as these are quite funny in their bare faced cheek and ingenuity.
Most adults will have no problem in consigning them to the appropriate repository.

If you are classed as a vulnerable person, I am sure they are not quite as amusing though. Cyber crime nets significant ill-gotten gains, and preys on the gullible. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is.
(Except for the email I received from the Nigerian chamber of commerce offering a charitable bursary worth $1.5 million, which can be released for a very reasonable $60 administration fee).

@Huw: yes, but if only due to their sheer verbosity, those are obvious scams ... so off into the oblivion of the Bit Bucket* they immediately go!

But please send Gloria my Warmest Regards! smile

What was a bit more "novel" about the one I'm referring to was:-

1) Its (semi, perhaps) plausibility
2) The fact that the (purported) sender is a current member of this forum!

PS: nothing else heard from him (or them) as yet, by the way.

@Sean: even more heart-breaking (for those who have a heart, that is) must be the folk (both young and old, and of all the various "persuasions") who "meet" on line ... then get tempted to jet off into the arms of their Third World Toy-boy (or whomever). We all must have heard how that sort of thing generally ends up. And for those who haven't:- they are not usually Happy Endings.

Sadly, there are some really er, sad (and lonely) folk around ... even today, in our 24-hours a day "connected" world. frown

* Remember all that?

Because he/they have failed to settle their hotels bills, they have been arrested by the Manila Police, and because internet access being somewhat limited in the local cells, he/they cannot send you another email. I think you can sleep safe tonight knowing that non-bill paying criminals will be dealt with appropriately by the local Philippine judiciary....

An unfortunate turn of phrase....

On the other hand, perhaps all is well ... and Manila's Finest have already apprehended the villains who "stole the bags, the phones and the credit cards"!

So yes, another Happy Ending. smile

Dont worry Geoff, if he has been registered with the VRCT, he will be well prepared to survive in that environment....

Well, it looks like the guy doesn't give up that easily. I've just received another email.

Name:- ******* *******

Amount: $1,600

As soon as it has been done, kindly get back to me with the Western Union confirmation number ... Let me know if you are heading to the Western Union outlet now.

Needless to say, I've replied back saying that (even though it's midnight) I'm off to the Western Union Office right away. There's one on every street corner in England, as everyone knows (or rather, seemingly imagines). whistle

By the way, if anyone on Luzon wants to pass by and check this guy out, I would be happy to supply the name and address he gave.
