A man from the (out sourced) building management company has just been round sticking asset stickers on sinks, toilets etc. and had some test gear with him. When I asked him what this was about he said it was a new regulation, and when I asked him what he was actually testing he just said it was a new regulation.
Any idea what this "new regulation" is?

For the toilets, Would that be covered under the WEEE Regs?

Hate to ask but how would you test a toilet? Visual inspection or was his test equipment a bowl of gobi aloo saag?

I was also going to ask:- what sort of test gear?

On the other hand, I have been in places (overseas) where more or less everything in the building had an asset (property) tag.

@Chris: as I have mentioned on here in the past, there used to be (thirty years ago, that is) such a test for bedpan washers. No doubt there is something a bit more High Tech these days.

I did not see much of the test kit in his bag, I am sure there was a thermometer (which makes sense). He was also doing a visual inspection of water traps etc.
Surely there are more important things to worry about in a hospital.

Are we talking about a new building? A PFI situation, maybe?

Perhaps the guy was just going around clearing the snags.

But anyway, I wouldn't "diss" what the guy was doing; maintenance needs to cover all aspects of the hospital, and no doubt (better make that "hopefully") there are other staff taking care of all the rest.

After all it's hardly unknown for faulty plumbing to be the source of all sorts of nasty infections. And I've seen (smelled, or otherwise "enjoyed") blockages, over-flows, back-ups and "leakage" in almost every hospital I've ever been in. Someone needs to take care of that stuff.

It is a 5 year old PFI but we moved in to a new build 2 years ago.
There is someone who comes round monthly to run the taps to make sure the hot water is flushed through - what a fun job!
But my question was about the "regulations" he mentioned.

If it's toilets he is testing perhaps you mis-heard him. He was probably taking an ASS-SEAT register
