Hi

I was wondering if there are any course that can help me improve my knowledge and skills in biomedical engineering...

I have a year and 8 months experience servicing and repairing medical equipment mostly ecg spiros bp monitors not alot of equipment

mostly ppm work

I have booked the Biomedical Equipment Electrical Safety and Equipment Husbandry courses with avensys

My end goal is to work with nhs as an electronic biomed engineer

.....

are there any other courses i can do to help me stand out when the time comes for me applying for a role in the nhs....

I have a B.eng degree eee

registered with I.E.T and got EngTech ...


any information on how i can increase my chances of getting employment with nhs will be very helpful

There is always the "infamous" Eastwood Park - or what ever they are called these days.

Strange though it may seem (excuse the pun), Avensys up until April 2013 were delivering all of the infamous EP medical engineering course stretching back some 6 years (before us it was Mr Pretlove). Avensys decided last year it was time to move on alone and establish our own dedicated academy with modern up-to-date equipment, and dare I say, a better refreshing practical based approach.

All Avensys courses are Nationally certified and listed on Ofqual qualification and credit framework.

I think you have made the right choice going to Avensys. I went to eastwood park in January and scratched through the exam with the knowledge I had before I attended. It really was a dissapointment as my colleagues had been when it was being ran by avaensys and they hadn't realised it had changed hands! There was that many complaints after the course that we have been offered it again for free! Wish I went to Avensys now I can see why avensys went the equiptment was horrendous most it wouldnt even be found in hospitals today and it was damaged to the point where doing a safety test was dangerous lol!

I thought it may be time to explain a little more about the courses we run here at Avensys UK Ltd. Hopefully, you may all know that it was Avensys and our trainers that delivered the Medical Equipment Training courses with Eastwood Park, but as Rob says we have gone our seperate ways now.

The level 3 modules we offer are generally 3 days long, and consist of 1 day in the classroom (The Bad bit) being taught all the principles of the subject. Then 1 day in the workshop (The Good bit) working hands on with the equipment, putting into practice what you have learned the day before. We carry out service of generic equipment and we simulate faults on the equipment so you have to diagnose the problem. The final day consists of a practical test where you are put in a real time scenario and have to carry out fault recognition & diagnosis. There is also a short answer exam on the whole course.

This is by no means an attendance course and pre-course reading is essential.

All of our courses are accredited with The Open College Network and are now listed on the QCF. This means your NHS trust can apply for funding through the Skills Funding Agency. https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/skills-funding-agency

The level 3 Certificate in Medical Equipment Technologies is by far the most popular course and it is 10 days long and covers 5 core modules, more information can be found here at our website http://www.avensysmedical.co.uk/training/
