recently the Lab decided to double the frequency of calibration for the blood gas analyzer claiming that its part of the CAP requirements yet the failed to deliver any valid document that support their claims. what they provided was a survey done by the CAP publish in Sep. 2006 which is very old. if anyone have any documents related to the calibration frequency of the Blood Gas Analyzer please share it with us.

Had a similar problem here a few years back, told the lab we have a hospital wide policy and if they cannot provide documentation then they will remain part of the policy. Still to this day they have not provided any documentation

Ah yes, "internal politics" - one of the "joys" in the life of the front-line (hospital based) biomed.

"Let sleeping dogs lay" would be my advice to Abdulaziz. Having come across a fair number of stroppy lab techs in my time, I would suggest:- ignore the whole thing (them), and hopefully it will just wither on the vine.

@Abdulaziz:- which "calibration" are we talking about? And who is supposed to carry it out? The lab techs?

Also (out of interest), is the ABL only in the main lab, or in places like ICU as well?

we have 4 ABL800 units; ICU, NICU, ER, DR

according to the document i got the CAP recommend a 1 point calibration every 30 min and 2 point calibration every 8 hours. the calibration is basicly automatic but; as usual; Clinical engineering is being asked to assist in the estimation of the consumption of the reagents and ordering. carrently we are following radiometer recommendation; every 4 hours; yet its deferent then the CAP; recomendations published 2013.

looks like clinical engineers are ment to be busy busy busy -.-
