Medical Device trainers looking for equipment competencies might wish to look at this resource: http://www.namdetyorkshire.info/namdet-yorkshire-meetings/device-competencies/

Useful for using as a copy and paste into your own competencies or just for providing ideas.

Nice work, Brian. smile

Someone has put in a lot of effort there.

I would love to think this might be the start of developing national or even international (in my dreams!) competency assessments for medical device users.

Still, Rome wasn't built in a day.

I note that your document allows the user to sign off with no further training needed, it is my opinion and experience that the user needs to have training then be assessed in a clinical environment before they can be signed off as "competent"

Peter, not sure which of the many documents you refer to in particular but you will no doubt realise that there are different requirements associated with different types of equipment.

It was not my aim to get into a discussion on the right or wrong way to assess competency, rather to provide a stimulus to others seeking a starting point for their own competency documents. Indeed, my understanding is that NAMDET (http://namdet.org/) are hoping to embark on developing UK national competency documents. If you're not already a member I would urge you to join and add your experience to those already there.
