Hello Everyone,

Are there any pre requiste (qualification requirement eg city and guilds or BTEC)

To be trained up on carrying out electrical safety tests on medical equipment?

Yes geoffery, I see the advert... but what I trying to find out is what is the current requirement. Can you get someone from Tesco stacking shelves..to attend this course?

When you did it what where the requirments?

when Nick Brown did it in 1900.. you only needed "Wasta"

So can you please find out have the standards dropped so that any Tom, Dick or Harry can do this course??

Prerequisites for our courses are generally, you have to be working within a NHS EBME department and be working towards an electrical qualification.

Every case is different and we asses whether the candidate is suitable to do the course or not.

It's certainly not the case that any Tom, Dick or Harry can complete this course.

The whole EST procedure could turn into a long debate on here; it's generally the first job any young apprentice will do, so they need a solid understanding of what they are testing for, not simply pressing a button and looking for the pass symbol.

You might have requirements to do the course but you do not have to do the course to perform EST.
So unfortunately the answer is "yes" any T, D or H can perform an EST, but it is a bad employer/manager who allows this to happen. Or one who is cost cutting.
As for the proficiency/qualifications/abilities of the external companies who came in to hospitals and safety test everything in site - hopefully with the exception of medical equipment - well.....?

PS and some more experience techs as well. I have seen people testing equipment with it switched off - and by that I mmean not just a soft switch, the hard mains switch
