With Baxter's change of this spare part, making the often required replacement of pole clamp rubbers into a comparatively costly and time consuming ordeal I have looked at possible alternatives and think I have a workable option.
I have trialled a variety of grades and thickness's of rubber samples with our Baxters; retro fitting sample pads onto used vee blocks and seeing how they stood up to the rigours of hospital life.
A dicision was made to use a simple black nitrile rubber pad (70 shore) cut to 59mm x 32mm x 2mm thickness with 5mm radius corners, we have had the tooling made to cut these pads and called off the first 300.
They are simple enough to fit, clean off the existing vee block, clean the rubber pad with an alcohol wipe to remove any grease, prime the rubber with Loctite 770 and then use Loctite 406 to bond the rubber to the plastic vee block. I’ve found that as the grab is instantaneous it is easier to bond one half, peel the rubber back to apply glue to the other half and press it into place.
After paying the one-off tooling cost the pads work out at 48p each, I used a company called ABM, my contact there being Gareth Bowden (01495 711 895) quote ref Q 33136.
If you were interested I could send you some samples in the post for you to assess.
