Afternoon all

We seem to be constantly reviewing what our organisation uses to clean/decontaminate medical devices.

We work closely with the Control of Infection team to try to come up with suitable cleaning products for the ward/departments staff to use to decontaminate devices either between patients or prior to sending down to us.

We have also had guidance from different equipment supplier/manufacturers as to what products to use (or not use) and also what substances that may be in these cleaning agents that may have a detrimental effect on the devices.

We have been using products supplied by PDI (Sani-Cloth Advanced and Super Sani-Cloth Plus wipes).

We have had a supply issue with these and the Trust has been trialling new products.

We have been told by certain companies to avoid products containing dimethyl benzel ammonium or Hydrogen Peroxide at certain concentrations

Any info greatly appreciated

Im sure we both remember the days of sinks full of hot water and haztabs or buckets of Cidex.
PDI are flavour of the month here, not heard of any issues.
Ner mind what ever we go to something else will crop up the day after if not before.

We have recently changed to Medipal. Trust/Control of Infection decision.

I agree it's a constantly changing situation. Problem is now devices are made of more "plasticky" cheaper materials some active ingredients seem to be reacting with them (or plain damaging displays). Finding the right solution to kill the bugs, clean the equipment and NOT harm the staff seems to be a battle.

Even with firms like PDI certain products are accepted by OEM's for cleaning, other ones aren't.

God knows what harm it has done to us over the years, I remember those days well.
