We are currently using HECS, but have an overflow workshop about a mile away for community and private SLA's. When we didn't have very much to look after, we didn't see the need in investing in a new database. Our number of external assets has now grown and we are considering a separate database. We like e-mat, but it still may be too powerful for our needs. We are as yet undecided.
I am waiting for our Chief Tech to come back off holiday before making any decisions, or he's likely to lynch me (won't you Huw)

We at Altnagelvin Hospital have just purchased E-MAT.
Obviously liked what we saw, but when we get it fully populated, up and running for a few weeks, I will give you my verdict.

I've spoken to Marc Eve directly, as it happens he has already successfully completed the form and downloaded the trial of E-MAT.

I have a solution for all.

Forget about all these electronic database's and Intranet, networks, harddisk backup, megabit-bob-byte thinggy-ma-jiggys.

Just use Pencil and paper.
Why change what has worked for years eh ?

Well the E-MAT software is developed using an Abacus and punch cards then we put it through our "nostalgia compiler" to produce the beautiful Windows version that it is now.

If you really want paper so much there is a Print button on every screen, or for the
more advanced user: ONE-click of the Excel button on each screen will take your data immediately into Excel where you may use the "export to abacus" function.

Hang on a minute ! Those don't sound like "enhancements" to me - sounds more like a recipe for disaster ! We're supposed to keep records on equipment for years - FULL records ! We've had more than one case (unfortunately) where we've had to produce details of service dates etc on a piece of equipment which has been scrapped but was involved in an incident beforehand (- which is probably why it was scrapped).
Archive the data by all means, but delete it ? I don't think so.

Doesn't DB9801 (section 7.2) state that we have to keep records for 11 years in line with HC(89)20. Although I have looked in said HC and it is very vague, doesn't specify what records to keep for 11 years so I am assuming it is all records. Have also been told by a medical records manager that any entry involving children or babies must be kept for 25 years. I take this as meaning any inventory, repair, incident etc involving equipment used on a child should be kept for 25 years.

If anyone can clarify this so that it is more straight forward I would be very grateful.
