Just out of interest, is there any EBME's out there that look after their hospitals telecoms - from the exchange and beyond?

Cheers
Mark

We provide first line support for the hospital paging system. Does that count?

Geoff,

To keep up with the ever-changing climate in the UK and infact the western world, we as a department may have to expand into areas not normally associated with the work that an EBME is traditionally seen to do...

BSM,

You're in the right ball park.

Cheers
Mark

Not seen it done in other departments either.

A thought that might cause debate....
This does beg the question "What are we here for?"

If it is to look after medical equipment, in any sense of the words - fine, we know what we are expected to do. If it is to save money or make money for the hospital, why do we not set up a toaster and television repair shop and forget medical equipment altogether? It would me more profitable and in line with those hospital goals.
Taking it to the extreme you could sack all the EBME staff and invest their salaries on the stock exchange if money is the ultimate aim.

Surely a medical equipment section, whatever it is called EBME or Clinical Engineering, should deal with medical equipment. And another appropriate department should deal with communication equipment.

Mark, I presume you are going to get the additional staff and training with which to do this work.....Or are they trying to get something done on the cheap?

Robert

My spelling is not bad. I am typing this on a Medigenic keyboard and I blame that for all my typos.

Might be worth talking to Goeff Goss at Airedale -He manages EBME and Telecoms. The last phone number I have for him is 01535 651412.

Our department does the first line repair and maintenance of the hospital bleep system, and used to look after telecoms up until just 4 years ago.

I didn't realise that not all EBME Depts. look after this sort of equipment... boggle

How many EBME Depts. do, do this then? Or other such job's above and beyond our "normal" scope of work?

After all anyways, define "Medical Equipment"?
