A poorly selected (under-rated, low-spec ... cheap) component would be my guess.

Update on this problem.This issue was raised with MHRA and has now been resolved as the latest batch of these units have greatly reduced leakage current.

Any details about the cause of the problem? Capacitor? Motor?

I've not been told specifically Geoff,but over the 2 years this issue has been ongoing I've had a few conversations with various parties including the designer who told me the batch that was causing the problems had a new motor. So I'm assuming that the motor has been changed to a less leaky unit.

Sounds like a bad batch (alternative supplier, maybe) of motors, then. It would have been interesting to take a closer look, and compare them with good ones (ones that passed commissioning tests).
