I would like to know how many of you out there in Biomedical Engineering are housed in what I can only describe as the bowels of the trust? Is it not time my friends that we join together and demand proper kennel's so we can go about our merry business in more refined surroundings.
Regards
Louis Lyniswern III

Louis We happen to be outside the Hospital in an old generator room.
It would be nice to achieve equal facilities for all, but HOW?

Once we get united as a profession and agree to standard work practice and protocols, facilities should come as part of our professional standard. I am yet to see any one of my colleagues getting off our back sides and saying this is what our standard is. We have a lot of talk and Emails, but no sharing of information. I have suggested previously to arrange a national two days for us to tackle all the issues. What I get we are all busy. By the way, we have just moved to new premises with air conditioning, etc. You are welcome a visit. alex

My dear Alex, one can only applaud your stand. As for our professional standard, are we not highly skilled engineers/technicians who deserve such basic facilities as air conditioning etc? Our fellow engineers in the private sector (not necessarily medical) seem to be blessed with a better class of kennel than that of ourselves. All we have obtained in the last year is a direct line to RENTOKILL. However, going back to “getting of ones backside” is it not up to all the MTO5's (equiv) to get together and agree a professional standard, I am sure ones masters would not be missed for a couple of days, if not even a week.

No problems, but the initiative must come from us. Our chief executive would be delighted to attend such forum. can you talk to yours and invite him / her, and I will organise a meeting at Dewsbury. The lecture theatre will take around 80 people. any better offers? alex

Alex, my fellow sympathizer, what a patriotic fellow you are, please lets send the revolutionary call to all our fellow eng/techs across this wonderful nation and get them on board for this final battle that will allow us to live on a par with other departments within our trusts. Come on gentlemen embark upon our cause.

What what we need to do is get jobs in trusts that see ebme/med.eng/biotechs what ever you want to call us as an asset not just there to help out when the proverbial hits the fan. The good Dr Edgar Carnousge, who regularly honours us with his thoughts (and views this site)will tell you how respected the departments are in this area of the woods. We all have excellent departments to work in are treated as the jewels in the crown of our masters. Equal access to training funds as the clinicians and nurses, we get well decorated departments with excellent facilities and have enough staff to stand around at the end of beds contemplating such issues as coronation street and what sweeties to open next. THEN WE WAKE UP...

HA HA YES, WAKEY WAKEY. WHO IS AWAKE AND WHO ISN'T. IT APPEARS THAT THERE ARE SOME PARTICANTS TO THESE PAGES WHO ARE ALWAYS AWAKE. NO WONDER THE NHS REVOLVES COLDLY AND SPORADICALLY AROUND RENOWNED PRONUNCIATIONS OF ROUND, ROUND, GET AROUND. IN FACT SOME PEOPLE ARE VERY ROUND BECAUSE THEY DONT GET AROUND TO GETTING AROUND OR A ROUND. I ALWAYS GET A ROUND WHEN I GET AROUND TO GETTING A ROUND. WELL I HOPE YOU ARE ALL WELL. THE JEWEL IN THE CROWN IS WHAT WE ARE. WELL WE ARE NOT JEWELS, BUT MERELY CRYSTALS IN A LARGE CRYSTALISED CLUSTER OF CRYSTALS. THE TRUE JEWELS OF THE NHS ARE YES! NO, NOT YOU OR ME, BUT THE JEWELS OF THE CRYSTALS. WE ARE NOT ALONE IN OUR UN-DECADENT SPORADIC WORKINGS OF HOT AND HUMID ENVIRONMENTS AND OF ENVIRONMENTS WHERE ONE OR OTHE, OR ALL, OR YOU, OR, ME AND YOU CAN CO EXIST. I WILL NOT EXIST WITHOUT HELP. AND IT IS YOU, YES ALL OF YOU, MY FELLOW TECHS WHO GET ME THROUGH. THE LONG, THE WINDING, THE ROADS OF LIFE ARE MERELY DIVERSIONS FROM THE TRUE ROAD OF FAITH IN ONES FELLOW HUMAN BEINGS. IF I WERE TO PICK MANY OR ONE ONLY, IT WOULD BE A BIOMED TECH, NO MATTER WHAT THE ENVIRONMENT. SO, i SAY. LET US NOT QUIBBLE OVER ONES MERE EIGHT HOUR OR SO DUTY ROOM, BUT HERALD THE FRIENDSHIP OF ONES TRUE FRIENDS AND ALL. I MUST GO, FOR THE SWEET TEARS ARE RUNNING ON MY COLOURFUL LIP GLOSS. REGARDS, EDGAR.

Oh I feel much woe this fine evening. Mr Mundy, as much as I admire your expertise in the the subject of rubber, I cannot help but resign to the fact that you appear to think that these soap opera, candy addicted intemperance's deserve the current acclaim they have bestowed upon their daily souls. We all know that they work long hard hours, and without them my friends, what would we have to do!! My fellow proficient's, do we not ?.. deserve access to the funds of life ?... the ride towards our empiric destiny has arrived, join us. However fellow techs, please lets gather our thoughts together and wish our fellow compatriot, the enniment . Dr Edgar Carnoustie a speedy recovery,... however, in the mean time, is it possible one of his anesthetics tech's could check out his AGSS.

Alex I'll come to your place, I need some air conditioning. (no references to beans please)
Edgar I must say, one does wonder if one has been too close to the N2O??
Getting back to the serious issue of buildings and resources, we are supposed to be getting a purpose built facility within 2 years (after much stamping of feet)
It would be good to get together and come up with a plan for the perfect dept.
