I heard a story from a Nurse I know, back from holiday, about the failure of the air-conditioning/cooling on a commercial jet that was sorted in-flight via Boeing Seattle.

Apparently the Pilot just connected-up over the in-flight MODEM and Boeing sorted the problem by uploading a patch. They were quite happy to let the passengers know all about it - not so sure I would have, especially if it was something to do with the flight-control!

Scares the sh** out of me to think that you can dial up a flight and make changes "on the move"

What next? Virtual terrorist. Just ring up your local 757 and type in "format *.*"

I know it would be a little more complicated than that, but these terrorists are fairly resourceful little buggers. frown

Getting back to the original subject, I think it would be a good idea to have a hospital administered uniform which would be cleaned regulary by the hospital autovalet.
There is no need for the uniform to have a tie or lab coat (this will cut down on infections) and I am sure we still would project a smart and professional image.

Does anyone have a recommended uniform?

A few questions for the wannabe uniform wearers

1. Is it weatherproof? We have external buildings to visit at all times of the year

2. Is it cool in summer and warm in winter? Even school kids have summer and winter uniforms.

3. Is it durable? We have to work in environments of dirt and hazardous substances, will enough be supplied to cover such circumstances?

4. Has it got street cred? A lot of us do on call. Are we expected to pop in to telephone kiosks on a Saturday morning to change when your pager goes off?

5. Has it got street cred 2? Again we deal with people in the community. Do we travel round in our little pretty uniform? I thought this was suppose to be an aid to Control of Infection!

I know the C of I points are as valid if you wear civvies but at least we are not draining resources in purchasing pretty blue tunics and having them regularly laundered.

If the reason is Control of Infection then surely, as suggested earlier, the wearing of theatre blues and disposable protective garments in clinical areas is a better suggestion.

Dear me Dave, how much to kit out a few eager Biomeds as oppossed to the running cost of a say an MRSA infected ICU.
confused

How does a pretty blue tunic avoid being contaminated Seymour?

Is my wash and wear C&A shirt, changed every day, more likely to be infected than a changed once a week tunic?

As stated, the need to control cross infection is better suited to housekeeping by wearing theatre blues or disposable protective aprons etc etc

The requirement for wearing pretty blue tunics is control. All Biomeds attired and easily identifiable.

Nothing at all to do with MRSA, unless of course it stands for Microbiological Resistant Staff Attire.

Maybe you have these magic suits Seymour. eek
