Not sure if I can help with any info but i'm currently a Trainee Medical Engineer at Chesterfield. I was taken on with an ND in Electrical & Electronic Engineering, and was subsequently put through the HNC course. As a result of A4C it looks like i will be put a degree course of somekind. As part of that i'm currently studying an Anatomy & Physiology unit at Notts Peoples College. Next year (Hopefully, i'm told) there will be a Clinical Engineering Degree done there through DeMontford University. Although I don't have much info on that at the min.
My tranining has basically been as you described earlier. Formal qualifications of ND/HNC, Manufacturing Training Courses, In-house training (If thats what you call it, Matt!), and on-the-job experience.
