Here is a test for all SP 6000 users.
Load a 5ml syringe and simulate a 2ml infusion @ 75ml/hr. Now without turning the pump off insert a 50ml syringe and attempt a 2ml @ 200ml/hr infusion.
The syramed pumps have multiple safety features to limit the maximum rate. During an infusion the maximum rate is limited to the lowest constraint during that infusion.
Constraints can be the syringe size but also max soft and hard limits programmed and loaded through the selected drug or limits programmed through the service mode. If you had a specific drug that limits the rate to say 50 ml/h the pump will keep that limit to 50ml/h even if you put in a larger syringe. The same obviously happens if a small syringe is loaded first and later on a larger syringe.
In the clinical practice we recommend to switch off the pump completely before starting a NEW infusion. We consider that when a syringe with a different size is loaded this will be another infusion.
Note that you don't have to switch off the pump when just loading a new syringe of the same size for the same patient with the same drug.
