The MOH had this standardization programme for three years prior to CBAHI but as usual nothing got done, that is why all the healthcare facilities come under CBAHI now.

I can't help but wonder what shall become of the hundreds of hospitals (government and private) and thousands of clinics ( ditto) that will fail to shape up! How about "self-certification"? Also, what a great job it would be, travelling around the Kingdom as an Inspector. Just think of all those free lunches!

Geoff, did you complete the application form to become a surveyor with CBAHI, available on the website. Also it is not only the standards that are being done, but the classification of the healthcare facilities and it is this part that is going to have a lot of people jumping especially when they consider their hospital is "A" grade when it is given a "B" grade.

I doubt that I would be very welcome, Mate. For one thing, too many of the mudeers would remember me, most likely ... and secondly, I would not be flexible enough in applying the rules (if you catch my drift)! No doubt there are a hundred or more muhandis from "other nations" who would be most suitable! Here's another one for you:- the last time (I think it was the last, but there were so many such instances, it is hard to be sure) I was, shall we say, abused by some of the more ignorant people out there, I asked myself "What am I doing here? Do these people really deserve what I'm trying to do?" ... and stuff like that. I came to the conclusion (rather late in the day, perhaps ... but better late than never) that my efforts (constrained as they were) might be better directed amongst my own people. The people of England may have many short-comings (but show me any anywhere in the world who don't), but, like it or lump it (and come what may), they are my own people! I might feel at times that my efforts (such as they are) are not wholly deserved, and probably not (on the whole) appreciated, but here I am, and here now I shall stay. These days my contributions are even more modest, but at least they are applied where I hope the most (practical) benefit can result.
If you don't inspect ... don't expect.

How many of the mudeers are still around?, actually I don't know at the moment how the structure of the surveyors will be, maybe regional supervisors who knows. I have a meeting on Friday, if I remember I will ask. For now back to formatting the documentation. Working daytime in the hospital and at night a few hours for CBAHI, still the wife is not due out till next month so it keeps me away from temptation.

The same as mentioned above, remove the equipment, accessories and or cosumables, test the equipment thoroughly. Had a problem before in Riyadh a Doctor said that the dialysis machine caused the patient to feel ill and dizzy, I checked the machine and it was fine, I checked the patients record and the doctor had removed 10,ltrs of fluid in 4 hours, go figure.

Saudi was indeed a magical place back in the early eighties. No sorry... it was indeed crap, but at least I picked up a fantastic salary for the work done. Today, unfortunately it’s gone downhill, the money has decreased, yet the work has increased. The western biomeds there are a dying breed Yet, I loved the place and would never change a thing from the life experience it afforded me throughout those years. Angus (Riyadh 1980 to AlKhobar 2009)

Geoff, I had a row with the doctor and told him a few 'home truths' he never tried to take that much fluid off a patient again, at least while I was still there. Angus, but how is 'home' now?
