Hi all,

Is anyone else out there suffering from the door ribbon cable failing again? The initial blue ones were weak and broke in half. The black upgrades would appear to be going the same way.

Cheers

Found it was much cheaper to have these on fully comprehensive contract, the number of times there were failures and breakages it was cheaper in time and money for someone else to look after them

Hi Mark

We bought 84 of these for our equipment library and the black ribbon cables are failing. Maybe making them red might be the answer.
The cable does not feel like the high flex cable that would normally be used in an application like this. I would strip one of the wires back and count the strands which would confirm this but I don't have a spare cable to try at the moment.

Arcomed pay extra for the display ribbon cables to ensure that they are high flex. According to 3M, these cables are the best that they produce.

Internal tests have proved that the new cables have an expected lifetime in this application of about 40 years.

Even though the pump is splash proof, certain amounts of liquid can enter the pump near the stop flow and get in contact with the ribbon cable. These liquids are potentially able to dissolve the softener from the cable insulation eventually causing it to break much earlier.

To reduce the chance of liquid ingress into the pump, Arcomed have modified the stop flow housing in such a way that no liquids can enter the pump anymore at the stop flow opening.

Therefore, Arcomed recommends that in the case of broken display cables, not only the cables should be replaced, but also the stop flow housing. Stop Flow assemblies(part number: 75085) can be ordered at Arcomedical.

Hi Cliff

I've just been given a door ribbon cable and stripping back one of the wires. A count 19 strands, so it appears to be extra flex.

We have not seen any signs of fluid ingress around the cable.

The part of the cable that is pressed against the rubber sleeve is especially stiff. Is there any possibility of a reaction between the additives in the PVC of the cable and those of the rubber sleeve?

The real problem is that this cable was not designed for this application where a small part of the cable is subjected to most of the flexion. The life specification of millions of cycles is for applications where the diameter of flexion is much greater.

I will pass on this new Arcomed recommendation of changing the stop flow housing, every time the cable fails, to my colleagues. I'm sure they will be overwhelmed with joy.

I'm looking for a .pdf service manual for the Arcomed Volumed uVP-7000 infusion pump, so it would be nice if someone could oblige me.

It would be great as well if that manual could be uploaded to Frank's excellent website!

My email address should be shown at my Profile. smile

Just to let everyone know that I have received an email from Arcomedical Infusion Ltd. requesting that I remove the manual uploaded to Frank’s website. frown

For the record, that .pdf was found quickly and easily using the well-known internet search engine known as "Google". Please feel free to give it a try, guys.

Unfortunately, however, it was not a great deal of use to me, as it was incomplete. But my point here is that it was already readily available on line.

It was forwarded to Frank to save me the trouble of fielding requests of the "me too" type that we often see (and I often receive).

As I have no control over Frank's website, all I can do now is pass on the request to Frank by email. And (for what it's worth) I do not keep (collect, hoard, whatever) .pdf manuals myself, other than the odd one or two that I sometimes use on a daily basis. That's the beauty of Frank's site:- that is, a repository.

But I must admit that I would be a lot happier if Arcomed posted the complete manual to Frank themselves! smile

Does anyone know how to enable Empty Bag detection on the Arcomed VP-7000?

For instance, when drops are being detected by the Drop Sensor, but the pump continues to run once drops have stopped due to an empty bag.

Could it simply be a matter of continuing to press the "Option" button until an appropriate message shows up?

It's been six years since I last touched one of these pumps (and I didn't get the chance to do much digging into them even then) - but are the EPROM addresses accessible as they were back in the days of the 5005 - and is a dreaded "Hardware Key" still needed in order to alter any of those settings?

No doubt the Service Manual (as opposed to the Maintenance Manual) contains such gems. Does anyone have the Service Manual in .pdf?

Unfortunately, I don't have a VP-7000 in front of me, but I'm asking these questions on behalf of an email correspondent.

If anyone has the nous on these pumps, feel free to send a PM if you feel such information is too "sensitive" to broadcast! smile

Hi.
What model is this VP7000, blue or white.
Also if the hospital is using these pumps then they would have the "IRIS" software which allows the user to enable the bag empty alarm.
