Hi, Does anyone know of any "Shock" sensor, or otherwise, fitted to these pumps as we have had a number been brought to the workshop constantly alarming with a "Failure" message. As usual "It just happened on its own accord" . We have a suspicion that they are being dropped. Temporary disconnection of the battery seems to reset the pump. A thorough bench test does not show any unusual occurrences and the device passes all manufacturer tests. Any help will be most grateful, thank you.

We have approx 120 colleague pumps. This constant alarm is a constant problem. Baxter blame it on flat batteries but we have had this occur with charged batteries.
Unfortunately by disconnecting the batteries you lose the event history, so you get go and look to see what caused the alarm in the first place.
Our pumps are leased at the moment so we don't have to pay for repairs.
Apparently the Version 4 pumps are a lot better.

I have seen this problem with the Baxter Colleague Pump. The pump alarms and the processor seems to 'hang'. The only fault that I found was fluid ingress on the display PCB in the pump module. There is a rubber gasket that should prevent fluid ingress onto the board but if this is damaged in any way it leads to constant alarm problems.

I haven't seen this problem on the colleagues we use in our oncology suite, but they are newer the version, and the oncology nurses really like them. I was speaking to the equipment library manager from Hillingdon last week and asked for his opinion, he said they were very good, reliable pumps, so looks like Baxter have got their act together with the new version pumps.

We have the Colleague and so far so good, no major faults to report. Although the manual release tab has caused a 'few' user errors.

So were not the only ones to suffer with this problem, with the manual tube release and spurious alarms. I have found that this seems to be linked to the battery status and depends on the number of discharges below threshold and discharge cycles that have occured, the higher these numbers are the worst the problem seem to be. Are the batteries that they use good enough for the pump, we seem to suffer more with our tripples than with our singles.
