It will be fairly apparent if the plunger arm has been forced. The syringe force will be way out.

PL3 is usually down to syringe changes. When the user get a NEOI alarm, they dont stop the pump using the hold button. They just move the plunger back while the motor is still driving froward. The watchdog get confused as the plunger position reading is wildly out from the actual. So it flags up a "PL3" error.

The only thing that you can check is running the linearity check. And if thats out (>0.7mm we recal), you would calibrate the plunger position.

We have had (into the 100's) of PL3 errors. Its a training issue as they do need to stop the infusion before changing syringes.

Thanks

George,

Could you send me the pdf of the service manual aswell please.

It would be really helpful for me, and appreciated.

Thanks,

PL3 failure for alaris is initiated when its main processor s/w has detected an excessive deviation of greater than 2.4mm for longer than 0.8 seconds between the expected syringe plunger position with respect to the actual syringe position.

I have had this fault occur before on one specific pump, so i sent it back to cardinal for a full inspection. If need be, you can email me and i can send you a copy of the service repot which i recieved if it will help.

Did they find anything wrong? Or was it the usual problem as described above by Robbie? smile

I have seen components become detached from Asena PCBs before, so it might be worthwhile checking all the solder legs are still attached to the board.
Unfortunately, I can't remember where on the main PCB the safety processor lives (not had one open for about 3 years).

Aside from that, us profligate NHS folks would tend to just replace the main PCB (or control PCB as the manufacturer calls it).
