Thank you for your response.

1) The pumps are connected to the PC via the cable provided by company. All the pumps I've checked work with it and all the other calibrations and verifications work fine with it. Just these two tests which are causing the problems.

2) The "Bad Command" arises at the bottom of the Partner programme window.

3) Within the Partner programme there is no configuration set up, not even for the communication port. The programme quite happily reads the software version, service date etc from the pump.
