Press Release

The Voluntary Register of Clinical Technologists (VRCT) has launched its own dedicated website. It can be found at http://www.vrct.org.uk
The site includes a searchable on-line register which provides brief details of all current VRCT registrants. It also includes a printable application form, application guidelines, scope of practice information, the VRCT code of conduct and the VRCT Clinical Technology degree prospectus. There is also an FAQ section, current regulation information, plus details of the VRCT assessors and links to all of the constituent professional bodies.
Clinical Technologists are Healthcare Scientists specialising in the practical application of physics, engineering and technology to clinical practice. They work in NHS hospitals, private health care, academic institutions, and, the medical device industry. Clinical Technologists perform invasive procedures on patients, or, make clinical interventions, or, exercise judgement that can substantially impact on patient health or welfare.
The VRCT currently regulates the Clinical Technologist profession and are working toward handing over those duties to the Health Professions Council sometime in 2009. There are currently just under 3,000 Registrants.
