A Medical engineering team has won a prestigious Welch Allyn award - simply for listening to their colleagues.

CETYA-2011-winners

The team from Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals won the annual Clinical Engineering Team of the Year Award (CETYA) for its Listening into Action Initiative (LiA).
The project, which was commended for engaging with every staff member to identify their biggest challenges in carrying out their roles effectively, saw the team win ?1,500 of Welch Allyn equipment and ?1,000 towards training.

Jan McMeekin, Marketing Manager at Welch Allyn UK, said: The standard of entries was exceptionally high this year, but this team really shone out for their very simple yet highly effective project.
The team which is based at City Hospital, arranged drop in sessions for staff to talk about problems they had with equipment.

The results revealed that it wasn?t high tech equipment they needed, but basics such as couches, wheelchairs and patient transfer trolleys, which were broken or simply unavailable.
CETYA Judge, John Amoore, leader of the Medical Physics department at NHS Ayrshire and Arran, said: The lack of availability of low tech equipment was identified - and rather than being put off by it being low-tech the team positively addressed it.

The tangible results are impressive, as is the recognition of what the team has achieved.
A really excellent piece of work.
