The US company Vyaire Medical Inc. has signed an agreement to acquire the ventilator business and the imtmedical brand name. The second business unit, testing devices including test lungs, will remain in the possession of the previous Swiss ownership.
Buchs (Switzerland). For almost 20 years, Switzerland-based imtmedical ag has been developing and selling high-performance medical ventilators and biomedical test devices. Now the ventilator division and the brand name will be transferred to Vyaire Medical, a leader in respiratory technology. «With this step, we want to help bellavista ventilators achieve the success they deserve. To reach this target, it requires a company like Vyaire, which already has strong distribution and financial structures worldwide», says Jakob Däscher, one of the founders of imtmedical.
No adjustments to location
The second business unit, biomedical test devices, will be handled under the new brand IMT Analytics. The company will continue to operate from their current location in Buchs, Switzerland, which also applies to imtmedical ag under Vyaire in the coming years. «In order to maintain the stable operation of imtmedical, there will be no adjustments to the site or personnel in the foreseeable future», explains Harri Friberg, former CEO of imtmedical. At the beginning of May, discussions will be held with employees who will be integrated into Vyaire or who will switch to IMT Analytics.

Focus on development
The sale of the ventilator business unit brings benefits to users of all products previously offered by imtmedical. It is now possible for IMT Analytics and its development partner IMT AG to concentrate more on the development and optimization of measuring instruments. In addition, IMT AG will be responsible for the development and lifetime maintenance of the ventilation products from Vyaire for the next few years. "For us, this contract is a windfall, which also reflects the high quality of our development services", says Harri Friberg, Managing Director of IMT. In both business divisions, several devices are already in an advanced stage of development.

imtmedical just launched its latest gas flow and pressure analyser. The CITREX H3 offers all functions required for a precise testing of ventilators and other medical devices. It can measure pressure, flow, temperature, and – with an optional O2 sensor – even oxygen concentration.
CITREX H3 is the latest gas flow and pressure gauge from imtmedical. The state-of-the-art device was developed as an easy to operate entry-level model with only the key features for verifying medical devices – at an unbeatable price. CITREX H3 measures gas flow and pressure in the bidirectional flow channel. The accuracy of the flow measurements is ±2 %. CITREX H3’s wide measuring range of ± 300 l/min allows testing of various medical devices such as ICU and home care ventilators.
Reduced to the essentialWith the CITREX H3, operators can measure the 16 most important ventilation parameters including: flow, pressure, volume, PEEP, and gas temperature. 5 different gas types and the 9 most important gas standards are available for measurements medical technicians and ventilator manufacturers commonly use. Settings on the CITREX H3 can be changed easily via a simple to use configuration tool. By connecting the device to a computer, operators can customize the 1.7" screen to display just the values and units they need for their measurements.
The new CITREX H3 is available as a single unit and can be expanded with various accessories and options. For the measurement of oxygen, an optional O2 sensor can be purchased, which increases the range of application of the CITREX H3. In addition, imtmedical offers a variety of adapters, test lungs and a carrying bag - just the accessories that users need in their professional lives. «We are delighted to be able to satisfy exactly the needs we have identified in the market with the CITREX H3», explains imtmedical-CEO Harri Friberg.
As usual for imtmedical products, the features of the CITREX H3 gas flow and pressure analyser will be improved throughout its entire lifecycle. Our latest measuring device already has CE and CSA certification.

Eastwood Park is delighted to be supporting the NHS and other healthcare organisations in getting the most out of their apprenticeships once again, with the return of its Hospital Engineering Apprentice Summer School for 2018.
The summer school provides a solid understanding of working alongside multi healthcare engineering disciplines with practical, technical training, and is highly relevant at all stages of the apprenticeship programme. It will focus on linking general engineering practices to the requirements of relevant HTMs. Apprentices will gain a unique and much greater understanding of how the services they provide impacts on compliance of various HTMs.
The week long programme covers a range of disciplines, giving apprentices an insight into areas open to them within a healthcare engineering career. Modules include:
The summer school takes place from 30 July – 03 August 2018 and is now open for bookings.

The Apprenticeship Levy is part of the biggest shake-up in skills-based learning for a generation and will unite employer, training provider and apprentice as never before. Avensys UK Training Ltd is perfectly positioned to bring the benefits of this exciting apprenticeship initiative to the NHS, working hand in hand with hospitals and trusts to train new and existing clinical and medical engineers and address the lack of technical skills in the workplace. Under the new apprenticeship programme, there are no age restrictions and apprenticeships are also available to employees, allowing the NHS to make the most of the dedicated workforce it already has as well as attracting new blood into the profession.
Historically, industry’s commitment to running apprenticeship programmes was voluntary. However, the Apprenticeship Levy requires employers from all sectors with annual paybills in excess of £3 million to put aside 0.5% of their paybill to fund new apprenticeships. Any money not used by the contributing company within 12 months will be used to finance apprenticeships for smaller companies. With the first anniversary of the Apprenticeship Levy fast approaching, now is the time for the NHS to make the most of the money that has been put aside and seize the opportunity to get more people onto the new apprenticeships.
A key element in the success of the new apprenticeships is how they are delivered. Avensys UK Training offers the Level 3 Medical Engineering Apprenticeship and is the only provider currently offering both the 12-month BTEC Level 2 and 24-month Level 4 Healthcare Science Diploma (Clinical Engineering Pathway). The courses are managed at the centrally located Avensys headquarters in Kidderminster and combine a variety of teaching and learning methods with the added flexibility of three enrolment dates. Most of the course assessors received their training in the military, so are experienced and highly qualified in course delivery. They are all also practising engineers working for Avensys UK Ltd.
“I have found this apprenticeship course very interesting and through the dedicated staff I have enhanced my knowledge and skill set tenfold, increasing my confidence in working in medical engineering.”
