If you have any departmental or Trust news you'd like to share, please get in touch.

Thank you to all the exhibitors, speakers and delegates who came and  supported the 2016 EBME Seminar.  The presentations and exhibition were extremely well received, with a great deal of positive feedback both on the day and after the seminar.

ebme winnersThank you also for the many feedback forms that were completed and returned – we do analyse these and use your comments to improve the event year on year.

For EBME 2017, we will be having dedicated sound and IT systems (i.e. seperate from the venue's systems) and looking at returning to the sit down hot lunch which has always been extremely popular.

The ebme delegate book is available for download here and the presentation slides may be downloaded here.

Look out for the coverage of the event in the next edition of the Clinical Services Journal, due out in June 2016.

We look forward to seeing you all again at the EBME 2017 Seminar, details of which will be released on www.ebme.co.uk later in the year.

Applications are now open for Eastwood Park’s three new degree programmes, which can be gained while still working:

  • Foundation Degree Medical Equipment Technologies
  • Foundation Degree Hospital Engineering*
  • BSc (Hons) Management of Healthcare Engineering Technologies & Facilities

*incorporating multi engineering disciplines: decontamination; medical gases; hvac; water hygiene; fire; electrical; estates

Eastwood park studentAlthough you can’t beat experience, there is no doubt a degree level qualification does help hospital engineers stand out both within their workplace and employment market, as well as provide employers with a recognised development programme to continue to raise standards.

These new degree qualifications are open to those working in medical equipment, healthcare engineering and in estates and facilities disciplines. The foundation programmes are part-time over a two-year period and delivered as worked-based learning, enabling students to learn in the workplace, through workbooks, online study and direct practice. In addition, residential study and assessment weekends will assist in embedding the learning and help with knowledge share and networking with like-minded students. The foundation degree leads to an optional third year of study to achieve a BSc (Hons).

Klaus Muecher, Eastwood Park’s Higher Education Programme Manager has been delighted with the response so far:  “We have delegates from all levels on the first cohort and it is a pleasure to be joining at the start to support delivery of this unique degree programme for hospital engineers, as nothing like it is available from any other training provider.  There will be a high level of support throughout the programme to ensure those who may not have studied for some years, perhaps since gaining their trade and professional qualifications, are comfortable and encouraged with the learning programme.”

Rigel Ventest 800Rigel has extended its range of test instrumentation for biomedical equipment with the introduction of a specialist ventilator tester.

The Rigel VenTest 800 gas flow analyser is ideal for both bench top and field service testing of all commonly available ventilators to verify that the ongoing accuracy and reliability of the equipment remains within the required performance standards.

Precise sensor technology enables the VenTest 800 to accurately measure flow, pressure, temperature, and O2 concentrations bi-directionally and is compatible with 13 gas standards and 7 gas types.

The three model range includes a standard VenTest 800 analyser for use with all standard ventilators, including adult, neonatal, paediatric and high frequency equipment, as well as anaesthesia machines and spirometers. In addition, specially adapted models for the testing of vacuum measurements (VenTest 810) and low flow pressures (VenTest 820) are also available.

The VenTest 800 incorporates a simple, intuitive user interface and graphics display for ease of operation during testing and calibration settings.

As well as an internal memory, at the push of a button, all measured values can be transferred to PC records by USB, RS-232 and optional Ethernet interfaces. Once saved, optional software is available that provides a wide range of graphical analysis capabilities, including real time flow/pressure curves, functional zoom and certification documentation.

The Rigel VenTest 800 is the latest addition to the company’s comprehensive range of dedicated biomedical test equipment that also includes electrical safety analysers, vital signs simulators and performance analysers.
